This would have to be one of the funniest books I have read this year! It manages to be both a respectful and skilful reconstruction of one of those old pulp space opera / action serials in book form but its use of retro style starting with the lurid painting that's the cover makes it tongue in cheek hilarious! Yes that is Space Vulture on the cover and yes one co-author is an American Catholic Archbishop and the other his childhood friend a scriptwriter.
This has all the necessary ingredients! Alien Lizard Warriors! Zombies! An evil villain with a megalomaniac sense of his own self importance who's obsessed with style. A dame in distress. Two cute children. A dashing relentless hero Captain Corsaire. A lost relative. Rocket ships with fins. Cannibals!
If as an adult or teen or child you ever read and enjoyed reprints of 1930s and 40s sci-fi pulp you will love this!
The only problem you may have is developing an urge to smile and mutter Space Vulture! every time something reminds you of the book!
Enjoy ! ********** Look ten stars!
